It's Healthy Aging Month!

September is Healthy Aging Month! This is a time for older adults to take stock of their overall health and wellness, as well as to celebrate their age and all of the amazing things their bodies can do! It’s also a great time to remind yourself that there’s no such thing as being too old to start. Running a half marathon in your 40s, taking up a new sport in your 50s, hiking across the entire state of NC beginning in your 60s, doing your first 5k in your 70s…taking your first dance fitness class at age 99… these are all stories I’ve heard or witnessed first-hand! And improving your health does not have to be just about your physical fitness.


At 2MW, we look at several dimensions of wellness (physical, mental, emotional, and social) which are all important parts of your overall health. Healthy Aging Month is a great time to take a deeper look at all of these, as well as other areas of health and wellness also.

For example:


•how is your sleep?

•are you staying properly hydrated?

•are you getting the recommended 150 minutes per week of aerobic exercise?

•are you eating a healthy and well balanced diet?

•when was your last eye exam? How about dentist appointment? Counseling session?

•what are you doing to keep your brain healthy?

•are you making time to visit or call friends and family?

•when did you last take an exercise class that brought you joy?


And one more question that I want you to answer in the comments section: what’s one thing you are going to do to celebrate Healthy Aging Month? (Because healthy aging should absolutely be celebrated!!!)
