My Process (Part 3.5 & 4)

Writer: Carly C HoustonCarly C Houston

During that last week of the month, when I’m putting my playlists together, there’s one more really important thing I need to do: practice!

Sometimes I’ll get asked “how do you remember all these routines?” And the answer is, I do them over and over... and over and over... again. And as I’m practicing them, I’m also working on my cueing—what I need to say and when so that you can do the routines along with me. Along with practicing the moves and the cues, I’m working on what modifications and progressions I might be able to provide to make the routine accessible to everyone in class.

Finally it’s time to introduce the new routine in class! This is part 4 of the process but happens the first week of the new month. Once I have seen how you respond to the new routine, I can start making adjustments to the movements, the cues, the modifications, the playlist, etc.  This part is definitely easier than all the parts that came before (the hardest part just being making sure I remember it all), and it’s a nice little break before I start everything over again next week!

I hope you've enjoyed learning about this process. If there are any more questions (or suggestions on how to make it easier on myself!) please comment below.
