Today I want to talk about the most forgotten element that we work on in class---agility! Whenever I give a pop quiz on the 7 elements, it seems the other 6 can be recalled but not usually this one. I think part of the reason for that is that it is interwoven into many of the other elements already.
So what is agility? Put most simply, it is Balance In Motion. Agility can also be described as being able to move quickly and easily, or being able to respond to change. We practice all of these things through fast and fancy footwork as well as quick changes in body position and direction.
Agility interacts with Cardio through fast footwork and quick changes in body position.
Agility utilizes Toning by strengthening your legs and ankles.
Agility and Flexibility work together to allow your body to move easily.
Agility works with Coordination through changes in body positioning.
Agility goes hand in hand with Balance as we practice Balance in Motion.
Agility improves Memory by creating new neural pathways as we learn new patterns of movement.
As you can see, Agility plays a role in every element that we cover in class. If it could stand alone, I might consider it the most important element of 2MW. However, like everything that we do in class, it all works together to improve your overall Wellness.
